This year has brought alarming reminders of the need for gender equality movements. With restrictive laws and policies on reproductive rights on the rise in regions around the world, the ongoing aftershocks of the impact of setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat of war and conflict across continents, and the persistent impacts of the climate crisis, continued vigilance is needed.
The Equal Futures Network, an initiative of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH), will host Equal Futures 2023: A Gender Equality Summit in Whitehorse from May 17-18, 2023. This second annual event builds off of the success of our first-ever gender equality summit in June 2022 where over 200 champions for gender equality from communities across Canada gathered in Ottawa.
The summit will provide an in-person forum for the gender equality movement in Canada to come together, in all its diversity, to strengthen capacity, share expertise, and shape a path towards a fairer and more equitable Canada. The summit will also be webcast in English and French for those who are unable to attend in-person and ensure access to all.
“Equal Futures 2023 will lay the groundwork for collaboration to advance gender equality and support partnership development between organizations across Canada,” said Julia Anderson, CanWaCH CEO. “We are excited to host the summit in Whitehorse as a complementary setting from where we can better amplify voices from northern, rural and Indigenous communities and grassroots groups.”
Through the Equal Futures Network, CanWaCH amplifies the efforts of over 500 organizations, community and grassroots groups working to achieve gender equality in Canadian communities from coast to coast to coast.
Equal Futures 2023 is taking place on the traditional territories of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council.
More information, including programming and registration details, will be communicated through the Equal Futures: A Gender Equality Summit mailing list and the Equal Futures Network’s social media channels. Equal Futures 2023: A Gender Equality Summit is supported by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
