Unpaid Care Work as a Cause and Consequence of Gender Inequality: The Impact on Women and Girls’ Education

Gender norms and practices result in women and girls shouldering a disproportionate amount of unpaid care work around the world. This unequal distribution of care work greatly impacts their access to education and economic opportunities and is a root cause of their social and economic disempowerment. As a result, there is a great need to recognize this issue and implement a targeted focus on programming that reduces and redistributes unpaid care work.

On September 20 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT, join CanWaCH to discuss the impact of unpaid care work on women and girls’ access to education, and further explore the intersections that exist between SDG 5, gender equality, and SDG 4, inclusive and quality education for all. The panel will also consider the key tools needed to transform the care economy in order to create transformative change for both gender equality and inclusive and quality education for all.
