Undiscussed Links: Taking a closer look at stalking and GBV
Stalking is a significantly under-represented form of gender-based violence. Also known as criminal harassment, its prevalence in society and, more specifically, in cases of femicide are alarming. With access to greater technology, stalking has taken on new forms and causes victims and survivors inexplicable amounts of distress, fear, and, in the worst of cases, death. There has been an increase in advocacy to include stalking as a warning sign in intimate-partner homicide; but, advocacy alone is not enough. Join us for this informative educational event where we will look at the contrast of the legal definitions of stalking against survivor’s lived experience, its statistical trends and presence in Canada over the last 10 years, and actions individuals can take to help prevent criminal harassment and death of women, girls, and gender non-conforming folxs.
