Artivism for Change Workshop: Creating collage zine to express and process experiences of GBV
We will be making an 8 page collage Zine on as a way to tell our stories and process our experiences with GBV. Zines have been historically used in feminist movements as vehicles to reclaim our voices/ denounce and express our rage and alternative ways of existing. In this space you are encouraged to speak from your rage, anger, sadness, frustration, tiredness/ rest, joy, resilience, make a manifesto of affirmations, a guide to reconnecting yourself. Maybe this zines is a gift to yourself and or others.
Through this creative moment we will learn:
✂️The basics of making a collage zine.
🎭 Check in with our feelings/ emotions through art.
🎨 Using art as an avenue for activism and care for ourselves and others.
What to bring:
✨ Card stock paper – canvas for zine we will fold this in 8
✨ Old magazines, pictures of yourself, fabric, scrapbook pieces, sewing needle, thread, any material you would like to use.
✨ Glue
✨ Scissors
✨ Pen / pencil/ marker
✨ Paint (optional)
✨ Journal
*Don’t worry if you don’t have all of these items. Bring what you can/want to.
This session is open to anyone who has been impacted by gender-based violence whether you identify as a survivor or not. We encourage frontline workers, advocates and folks from grassroots groups to attend.
ABOUT THE ARTIST FACILITATOR
FEZA is a Congolese-Canadian multidisciplinary artist whose work includes photography, film, visual collages and sound art. Whether it is through photography, birth work or art education Feza’s work is a meditation on the daily experiences of Africans within the Canadian context, exploring experiences of migration, memory and kinship. They draw inspiration from their Congolese heritage, incorporating archival material such as photographs, video and audio sources. Their workshops allows for community somatic approaches to social issues. They are a co-creator of a youth collective, Pass The Vibes, where Black Queer artists are offered space to explore various art practices.
